Med Health Services and Pittsburgh Cardiovascular Institute Present Soprano Lilly Abreu in the First Annual “The Americas-In Concert”
 

PITTSBURGH, PA (July 1, 2008) Med Health Services and Pittsburgh Cardiovascular Institute, in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Latin American Studies, proudly present Pittsburgh’s first ever “The Americas-In Concert” on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 7:30 p.m in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium at the University of Pittsburgh. Brazilian songstress Lilly Abreu will be joined by Eric Susoeff on guitar, Dwayne Dolphin on bass, Eric DeFade on saxophone and flute, and James Johnson III on drums in a concert of works by American composers-from Gershwin, Jobim, Velázquez, Barroso and Bonfá to Pittsburgh’s own Billy Strayhorn. The concert is free and open to the public.

“The Americas-In Concert” is the first in a series of annual concerts designed to promote the development of local and national professional musicians, while exposing Pittsburgh’s general public to the music works of all of the America’s, from North to South. “We are proud to contribute to Pittsburgh’s cultural development with this international music event. The goal of the evening is to celebrate the uniqueness of the musical works of American cultures, and at the same time the remarkable talents of local artists,” says Dr. Oliver W. Caminos, Medical Director of Med Health Services and Pittsburgh Cardiovascular Institute. “I am especially looking forward to enjoying this special event’s modern interpretation of Brazilian Bossa Nova and classical American Jazz.”

“The Center is excited to participate in the first ‘The Americas-In Concert’, which serves as a perfect complement to our annual Latin American and Caribbean Festival,” notes John Frechione, Associate Director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Latin American Studies. “Lilly Abreu is a renowned Brazilian artist who presents a truly superb and delightful interpretation of songs from the Americas that will not only prove enjoyable and enlightening, but will help to attract new audiences to the music of the Americas.”

Patrons will enjoy live Tango music performed by Pittsburgh’s foremost talented Tango quintet, Tangueros de Ley, at a reception immediately following the concert in the Frick Fine Arts’ Cloisters.
